Concrete Kingdom is a reflection on the past. Think back to a time where we would navigate the streets ourselves, no technology , just you and your bike.
Craig's use of colour is sparing through these harsh streets, giving prominence to the figure in front of us. Even though he is young he is contemplative, maybe thinking of the future, a clever dichotomy of this nostalgic image.
Texture is built up with materials like card and newspaper which give this painting an extremely grounded feel.
An expert use of shape in this picture shows us a winding path into the past which leads to the sharp square Brutal buildings. But amongst these buildings is a young kid on his bike, lacking anything of the 'Concrete Kingdom' around him.
Craig Everett brings in all sides of nostalgia through his industrial glimpses of the past. Building pictures up, like the streets he paints, Craig uses a variety of methods to capture stories in his paintings.
